About the Directorate

 Preamble : The Directorate of Extension Education is responsible for dissemination of useful and latest agricultural information to the farmers through constituent colleges and Krishi Vigyan Kendras of the University besides planning, monitoring and execution of extension progress based on results of the researches conducted in all campuses/units of the University.

Vision : “ Self-reliant, healthy rural populous with rich agricultural knowledge and good marketing intelligence.”

Mission :

1. Situation analysis of farming systems and identification of potential areas of training, technology gap, technology adoption gap and production constraints.

2. To develop and demonstrate alternate sustainable farming processes which help the farmers to improve their productivity and profitability with bio-diversity conservation and improving the environment.

3. to link farmers with newly emerging globalized world by providing them information and guidance.

4. To develop a system of effective research and extension linkage.

5. to provide consltacy services to progressive farmers, agro-industries and other agencies involved in agriculture and allied sectors.

6. Integration of IT in rural system for speedy development.

7. To bridge the gap between farm and market and provide sustainable competive growth for the sector

8. to generate employment in the field of agriculture and allied disciplines.

Mandate :

  1. Agricultural technology transfer through different extension methodologies in the NE region.
  2. Imparting training for capacity building of human resource
  3.  Organization of farm advisory services at the doorsteps of the farmers
  4. To enhance the agricultural vocation in the region
  5. To act as a mediator between researchers and farmers to develp demand driven technology
  6. Single window delivery system for technology products, diagnostic services and information through Agricultural Technology Information Centres (ATICs).
  7. Facilitation in planning, implantation, execution and monitoring the  agricultural development in the region.
  8. Encourage to work in groups at the grass root level in the region for overall development

Although, agriculture as a whole is state subject but being the origin centre of technology generation and refinement of need-based technologies through rigorous experimentation, the educational/research institutions bear the responsibility to train the master trainers of the states and to conduct elite demonstrations. Owing this responsibility, Directorate of Extension Education, Central Agricultural University, Imphal deals with front line activities to disseminate agricultural know how and emphasizes over to get acquainted with the technologies among the farming communities  for further adoption through different constituent colleges situated all over the North Eastern Region except Assam and with the help of six Krishi Vigyan Kendras i.e., Imphal East, Andro (Manipur); Aizawl, Selesih (Mizoram) and East Siang, Pasighat (Arunachal Pradesh), East Garo Hills (Meghalaya), South Garo Hills (Meghalaya) and Sepahijala (Tripura).
