Message from the Desk of Dean
Joined as the first regular Dean of the College of Horticulture, Thenzawl in Serchhip district of Mizoram under the aegis of Central Agricultural University (Imphal) on the 31st May 2022. The College was founded on 18th June 2016 and has started its journey with the vision of attaining excellence not only in academics to produce the best human resources, also in research and extension for developing science led technology to diversify the agriculture and improve potential vis-a vis profitability in the field of horticulture for the entire North-Eastern and Mizoram in particular.
The North Eastern Region of India is considered as one of the richest reservoirs of genetic diversity of various horticultural crops. Despite its diverse topography and edaphic factors, the altitude and climatic conditions offer ample scope for cultivation of various horticultural crops in the region, though the development of horticulture has not yet achieve momentum as desired. The College of Horticulture is also striding towards adopting and implementing several other progressive measures, including the adoption of the ‘New Education Policy’, commercialization and patenting of the technologies and entrepreneurship development etc. It intends to facilitate initiation of research work on the burning problems of horticulture and boost up the quality production of major horticultural crops in the region. Though the College is in infant stage; yet it gives me immense pleasure to acknowledge the contribution made by the previous Dean incharge (s), faculties and staffs to various endeavors undertaken for college establishment in prefabricated buildings. I am fortunate to be a part of this prestigious university and would contribute in enhancing the modern infrastructure facilities under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Central Agricultural University (Imphal) for bringing the name and fame of the college in attaining new heights and milestones in the field of academic, research and extension. The emphasis will more on development of horticultural crops varieties & technologies for benefit of the farming community with the firm cooperation of all the staffs and students together in the upcoming future.
