













The nationwide month-long awareness campaign “Khet Bachao Abhiyan”, launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and ICAR, was officially inaugurated in Mizoram at Lok Bhavan, Aizawl. The programme was jointly organized by CVSc&AH, CAU, Selesih, and KVK-Aizawl, CAU.
Launching the campaign, Governor General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd.) stressed the need to protect soil health by reducing excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and promoting natural farming practices. He highlighted the importance of soil testing, farmer training, and sustainable agriculture, particularly in Mizoram’s unique jhum cultivation system.
Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, CAU, Imphal, emphasized the campaign’s role in promoting awareness of key agricultural schemes, including Soil Health Cards, Kisan Credit Cards, Farmers’ IDs, and Crop Insurance.
The programme featured a welcome address by Dr. Lalnuntluangi Hmar, Dean, CVSc&AH, a student skit on soil conservation, and a vote of thanks by Dr. K.P. Chaudhary, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK Aizawl. The event was attended by Mr. P.C. Vanlalruata, Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, along with officials, scientists, and farmers.
During June, the campaign will conduct seminars, demonstrations, and training programmes across the state to promote balanced fertilizer use, soil health management, green manuring, bio-fertilizers, and other sustainable farming practices.
